What to Eat after Full Mouth Restoration | New York Dentist

Here at New Dimension Dentistry, we offer patients full mouth restoration procedures that may help one achieve the smile that they’ve always dreamed of. After one undergoes full mouth surgery, it is important that they know just how careful to be with their new mouth. Here are some food tips that one should consider after their procedure.

  • Before and after you eat, it is important to brush and rinse your teeth free of any debris leftover
  • Soft foods are a must at first. You don’t want to risk breaking or completely removing any of the work just done on your mouth. Soft foods will be easier to take down, as you won’t be struggling to chew through all of your food.
  • Once you transition into harder, more solid foods, make sure pieces are cut smaller than normal and that you take into consideration just how much pressure you want to be applying on your teeth.

Laser Peridontal Therapy I New York, NY

Laser periodontal therapy is an advanced technique for your doctor to treat periodontal disease and save many teeth that were previously considered hopeless. The term laser periodontal therapy relates to the application of lasers for the treatment of periodontal disease only. Introduction of lasers for the purpose of treating gum disease has been around since the early 1990’s. There have been several types of lasers developed for reversing the effects of periodontal disease.

Laser periodontal therapy or LANAP is used to reverse the damage of periodontal disease. Laser energy is used to provide the beneficial effect. A fiber which has a thickness of about three human hairs is placed beneath the gumline. Once below the gumline, a narrow wave-length laser beam will be produced to alter the unhealthy tissue. The power and intensity of the laser beam give the Periolase the ability to provide a positive effect to the tissue surrounding the tooth. The laser energy from the Periolase is known to:

· Kill bacteria. Not only close to the tip but distant to the tip. This means bacteria which cause gum disease are getting killed in hard to reach places.

· Selectively remove diseased tissue and keep healthy tissue intact.

· Modify the calculus or tartar attached to the root so it is easier to remove.

· Alter pathologic or poisonous substances beneath the gumline and on the tooth.

· Create a clot which will seal the gumline and promote an environment which enables the regeneration of tissue.

Properly applied laser energy will allow the body to heal naturally so that the health of the gum improves and the teeth become more stable. The laser is a wonderful tool that will help many patients bring themselves to a more healthy state.

Monitoring Infant’s Fluoride Intake can Prevent Fluorosis – New York, NY

Even though fluoride is necessary to prevent tooth decay, Dr. Doris Giraldo from New York, NY suggests too much fluoride given to infants and children can amount to Fluorosis. Fluorosis is a harmless dental condition which is characterized by brown, mottled or discolored enamel. Most breast milk and ready-to-feed formulas contain infant-safe levels of fluoride, however, formulas that require water can increase this level since community or well sources usually contain the highest amount of fluoride proven to be beneficial in preventing tooth decay.

When using formula that requires water, Dr. Doris Giraldo recommends using bottled water that is low in fluoride or fluoride free or filtrated tap water.

If you notice brown spots on your children’s teeth, visitDr. Doris Giraldoto check for fluorosis or call (212) 750-4590 to schedule an appointment. If fluorosis is corrected in primary teeth, fluorosis will not likely be a problem when permanent teeth surface or visit our website at www.newdimensiondentistry.com.

What can I expect with Dentures? | Serving Midtown, NY

The success of your dentures, whether new or a replacement one, depends on a few factors.  Most importantly you need to rely on your dentist. Dr. Doris Giraldo DDS can offer the best advice to help you live your life with dentures.  Along with her advice, here are a few things you may experience while adjusting to your new or replacement dentures.

Gaining Confidence During the Adjustment Period- You’re probably worried about how your dentures will look and feel.  A period of awkwardness is normal at first and usually fades away quickly.  Before you know it, you’ll fell and be more confident about wearing your dentures.

How They Look and Feel- A “full-mouth” feeling is usually reported by new wearers.  You may feel that the dentures are too big or pushing your lips forward.  This feeling will disappear as you adjust to wearing your dentures.  They may feel like they don’t fit properly at first.  You may experience “gagging” or you to bite your cheek or tongue.  If you wear an upper denture your tongue will need to get used to the feeling of pressing against the denture and not your palate.  These problems do decrease over time.  Dr. Giraldo may recommend the use of a denture adhesive to help you feel more confident.  Another option is having Implant Supported Dentures.

New Sensations- Because dentures are a “foreign object” in the mouth, you may produce more saliva for a period of time. This also will disappear over time.  Try something simple like sucking on a mint or hard candy when this happens.  It will encourage you to swallow more frequently and clear the excess saliva.  Some soreness is also to be expected.  This will usually happen within a few hours of putting your dentures in your mouth. If the soreness continues, contact Dr. Giraldo for an appointment.  Never try to make adjustments to your dentures yourself.

Talking- When you talk, most of the sound of your voice reaches your ears through vibrations in the bones of your jaw and skull.  Wearing dentures can change the sound and make it seem louder.  This will be much less noticeable to others than to you.  If your dentures make a clicking sound when you speak, you may want to try speaking more slowly. With time and practice you will overcome this difficulty.

Eating- At first, you may think that food has lost its flavor.  This happens because the signals your brain is receiving about your dentures may overpower those from your taste buds.  This will eventually return to normal.  Also you may also have trouble being able to tell how hot food or cold food and drinks are.  So eat and drink carefully.  Eventually, your brain will ignore these signals from your dentures.  Here are some additional eating tips:

  • Cut food into small pieces.
  • Divide up food in your mouth so that you’re chewing evenly on both sides of your mouth.  This will place even pressure on your dentures.
  • Start by eating soft foods, such as eggs, fish, chopped meat, cooked vegetables and puddings.

Don’t be afraid to get dentures or implant-supported dentures!  Make an appointment today with Dr. Giraldo of New Dimension Dentistry in New York at 212-750-4590 or visit our website www.newdimensiondentistry.com.
